International Women's Day
Today (march 8) is International Women's Day. Its really important, because women all over the world, and even in the United States, do not get the recognition that they deserve. It is amazing that, in our age of knowledge and understanding, we are still unwilling to move beyond issues of gender. This is especially relevant and visible in Jordan, where women are really not given equal status. For this reason, it seems appropriate that my next article in the 'Aspects of life as a Jordanian' series will be about women.
Still, the subjugation of women is just as prevelant and possibly even more insiduous, because we tout ourselves as great purveyors of equal rights, in the United States. But, I don't want to get preachy or anything, so, if you get a chance, take some time today and think about what role women play in your lives and, more broadly, in our society.
